By downloading, installing, or using Background ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Background is a desktop application that provides real-time meeting transcription, AI-powered insights, and automatic meeting summaries. The App captures audio from your device, processes it for transcription and analysis, and stores results locally on your machine.
Background is currently in beta. The App is provided free of charge during the beta period. We reserve the right to introduce pricing, modify features, or discontinue the beta programme at any time with reasonable notice. Beta software may contain bugs or incomplete features.
You agree to use Background responsibly and lawfully. You must:
You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary consent to record meetings. Laws regarding recording consent vary by jurisdiction — some require all-party consent, others require single-party consent. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with the laws that apply to you.
Background and all associated branding, code, and design are the property of Background. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App for personal or professional purposes. This licence does not grant you ownership of any intellectual property.
You retain full ownership of all content generated through your use of the App, including transcripts, insights, and summaries. We do not claim any rights to your content. Since your data is stored locally, you are responsible for backing it up.
The App relies on third-party services for transcription and AI analysis. These services are subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of third-party services.
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that AI-generated insights will be accurate or complete. You use the App at your own risk.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Background shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to loss of data, revenue, or business opportunities.
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notification. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your locally stored data remains on your device.
